הַרְמָנָא

הַרְמָנָאm. (מני, with preform. הר, cmp. הרפתקי) appointment to office, authority, royal patent. Targ. Job 1:12; 2:7. Targ. Y. Num. 17:11.Ber.58a holding court בלאה׳ דמלכא without royal appointment. B. Mets.84a ה׳ דמלכא הוא (Ms. R. 2 הור׳) it is a royal appointment (which I cannot decline). Ḥull.57b ה׳ דמלכא לא ליבעו would they not have asked for royal authority? Ib. ה׳ דמלכא הוו נקיטי they were in possession ; (Ar. ed. Koh. the king was among them ומה׳ דמלכא עבוד and they did it by royal authority). B. Bath.46b, v. next w.Trnsf. (cmp. רָשוּת) office, bureau, esp. Resh Galuthas office. Erub.59a משום דשכיחי רבנן גביה׳ (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 300) because scholars are accustomed to meet at the Resh Galuthas office (Ar. קהרמנא).
